2017-2018 Competition Team Tryouts

2017-18 Competition Team Tryouts will be held on July 31st & August 1st 2017

We have been a leader in dance education for over twenty years. Our highly successful competition team members have won top awards throughout the region and across the nation! By starting with the best dance instructors available, offering leading edge choreography, providing excellent practice facilities, developing clear communication processes for the team families, and encouraging the team members to be their best, Miller Street has created an environment unmatched in our region!

Mr. Dance of America

 

Sam Faulkner is 18 years and old and currently in his senior year at the George Washington University Online High School. Sam began dancing at age 9, and trains in all styles of dance; Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro, Modern, Lyrical, and Hip Hop. He also has an extensive background in musical theatre, having performed in over 20 regional productions in Charlotte. Sam’s most notable role to date was starring as Billy in Billy Elliot the musical in two different productions at the Ogunquit Playhouse and North Carolina Theatre, where Sam also received his Equity Card, joining the Stage Actor’s Union. A highlight of Sam’s Billy Elliot experience was meeting and performing for former President George H. W. Bush and his wife Barbara Bush.

Sam previously held the title of Teen Mr. Dance of North Carolina 2013-2014, and is thrilled to have been named the new Mr. Dance of America 2015-2016, where he also won the Interview, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro, and Congeniality awards. When not dancing, Sam enjoys singing, researching Broadway history, and playing with his kitten Pippa.

Petite Miss Dance of NC

Cordelia T. Kim was born in Modesto, CA and now lives in Charlotte.  She is a 4th Grader at Charlotte Latin School. This is her third year dancing on the Miller Street Dance Academy Competition Team. She began dancing over at Miller Street Dance Academy in Baxter Village at the age of 4 years old and danced one year on their competition team. Being petite, she lives by her favorite saying, “I may be small but big in presence.”

She loves all forms of dance, but her favorite is Acro.  She loves to do crafts when not dancing, and even sews.  Last year she was crowned regional “Ms. Petite KAR” & “Ms. Petite Starquest.” She is grateful to all her amazing dance teachers and to her family for all of these wonderful opportunities.

Junior Miss Dance of NC

Brenna Goebel is 11 years old and is a 6th grader at Cuthbertson Middle school.  Brenna began dancing at age 3 and trains in all styles of dance Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical, and Hip Hop. She is a six year member of the MSDA Competition Team and a four year member of the MSDA Production Team.  She is also a 6th grade member of the Cuthbertson Middle School Dance Team.

Brenna previously held the title of Petite Miss Dance of North Carolina 2014-2015, and Petite Miss Dance of America 2015-2016.  She is honored to have been named the new Junior Miss Dance of North Carolina 2016-2017 where she also won the Interview, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Acro awards. When not dancing, Brenna enjoys riding horses, riding her bike, fishing at her grandparents house and doing art/craft projects.

 

Teen Miss Dance of NC


Lizi Lengel is 14 years old and currently a freshman at Rock Hill High school where she is an honors student, varsity cheerleader, and active member of Junior Civitans. She began dancing at the age of 2, and trains in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, modern, and acro.

As a “military brat” Lizi was born in England and has lived in 5 different cities in 3 different states. This has afforded her the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities in different areas of the country. She has tried her hand at everything from golf to goat roping. She has participated in activities ranging from kids marathons to archery competitions and pageants to aerial acrobatics. In her time away from school and dance she enjoys community service and spending time with her friends. Lizi has held the titles of Johnston County’s Outstanding Young Miss and Teen Miss Pineville. Lizi feels uniquely qualified to truly represent the state of NC as Teen Miss Dance as she has been a student at three different DMA studios in various areas of the state over her dance career. She is blessed to have the opportunity to be a member of the Miller Street Dance Academy community.

Natalie Rogers has been dancing at Miller Street Dance Academy for 15 years and is currently a High School Junior in the Miller Street Pre-Professional Program. Natalie has held the titles of Petite, Junior, and Teen Miss Dance of North Carolina, and also went on to win Petite and Teen Miss Dance of America. Natalie is honored to fulfill her dream of holding all four CDM titles as the current Miss Dance of North Carolina. In addition to dance, Natalie has also produced two songs with Moho Records.

Shane Tomasek is 16 years and old and currently in his sophomore year at Independence High School in Mecklenburg CMS. Shane began dancing at age 11, and trains in all styles of dance; Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acrobatics, Modern, Lyrical, and Hip Hop. He started gymnastics at age 4 and began competing in dance at the age of 12. He has performed in company theater presentations of Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, and Suessical.

Shane previously held the title of Teen Mr. Dance of Western New York in 2015 where he won the DMA National Acro audition award in Boston, and in 2016 the Acro Scholarship award in Nashville. He is thrilled to have been named the new CDM Mister Dance 2017. When not dancing, Shane enjoys spending time with friends and family, and doing water sports or hanging out at the beach.
